It's hard to believe, but we're past the halfway point of the season already. Unlike last year where it was a very competitive league in the first half, the league has pretty much been a banana republic with clear haves and have-nots this year. Only 3 teams have winning records, with the rest mired in mediocrity or worse. Let's take a look:
1. Tuna (A+)
Best move: Drafting Kareem Hunt, offsetting the loss of David Johnson. Close second is stealing Carson Wentz in a trade with Byron. Tuna benefited greatly from the miscues of other owners. Despite losing 2 of his keepers to injuries, Tuna is still the strong favorite to win it all.
Worst move: Trying to rotate inconsistent QBs in the first 5 weeks. That's been solved with the Wentz trade.
2. Donny (A-)
Best move: Picking up Deshaun Watson as a free agent and stacking the Houston passing defense with a revitalized DeAndre Hopkins. This will pay off in future dividends.
Worst move: Keeping Amari Cooper and his 33 points on the bench. In the end, it didn't matter because Tuna scored more than 100 points, but Donny almost got fined for a sub-50% efficient roster last week.
3. Kevin (B+)
Best move: Wrecking the draft with his rescheduling request. In on-field matters, Kevin has been very adept in his QB starting decisions. A couple of losses were unavoidable when neither QBs would have done well, but when he won, he won big by starting a QB who gave him 20+ points.
Worst move: Wrecking the draft with his rescheduling request. In on-field matters, Kevin's Denver DST may be disappointing in relation to their preseason ranking.
4. PJ (B)
Best move: Kissing Lady Luck with that cream puff schedule he's had so far. Opponents have only scored 420 points vs. PJ, next worst is Tuna facing 463 points. To his credit, PJ has been very efficient with his roster, an 83% efficiency is really high for him, history-wise.
Worst move: Guess that 2nd round pick for Matavis Bryant isn't looking too hot right now. That wasn't an autodraft but PJ only took 16 seconds to decide on that one. FYI, I wrote Kevin's and PJ's rankings before the Miami fiasco last night.
5. Hai (B-)
Best move: Having faith and sticking with Todd Gurley as a keeper. Gurley is arguably the midseason MVP, or at least in the mix of Top 3. Hai has been relatively efficient with an 81% efficiency rating.
Worst move: Not investing in a stud QB. Mariota has been a disappointment, let's see if Tyrod Taylor solves Hai's QB issues, but that's not likely. Basically waiting for Luck to return is not a viable strategy this year. Also, Hai's DSTs haven't been bad, but they have had a low ceiling so far.
6. Victor (C+)
Best move: Believing in Wade Phillips and drafting the Rams DST. This team is the opposite of Hai's team: Strong QB and DST, weak RBs and WRs.
Worst move: Benching TY Hilton in Week 3 when he was facing the Browns, costing the game vs. Tuna. Also, trusting Donny to follow his email instructions of picking Kareem Hunt over Marshawn Lynch.
7. Vu (C)
Best move: 3-1 in his last 4 games after starting 0-3. While the scheduling gods have helped, Vu now does have a healthy Gronk and sustained performance from Kirk Cousins to help him.
Worst move: Inconsistent RB and WR starting decisions especially in the first 3 weeks have led Vu to have the 2nd-worst efficiency in the league. This has been a pretty deep hole to climb out of. In each of his 4 losses, he's had at least one starter score 0 or 1 point.
8. Byron (D+)
Best move: Being a fan or just familiar with the Ravens D. They've given him wins in weeks 1 and 6 by scoring over 20 points, and most likely will help him win this week as well.
Worst move: So many to choose from. Most upsetting is trading Carson Wentz away for Odell Beckham. It's understandable to trade for a future keeper, but you're giving away another future keeper, who's also a QB MVP candidate, for an oft-injured Diva WR. Aaaarrgh!
9. Justin (D)
Best move: Has the hottest QB in the last 5 weeks on his roster. Who's in line to even do more if that QB's RB can't play.
Worst move: No, that QB isn't Cam. Dak Prescott has had 20+ points for 4 consecutive non-bye weeks. Number of weeks Dak has started for Justin: 0. Would have made a difference in Week 3. Blind homerism at its best. Trade suggestion alert: Double Homer Trade: Christian McCaffrey for Dak Prescott!
10. Matt (D)
Best move: Realizing the Cardinals D is pathetic this year, and picking up the Bengals D. That's all I got, sorry. When you rely on one man to carry your team, you're screwed when he goes down. Though Jared Goff isn't half bad as a replacement.
Worst move: But Goff can't overcome lack of depth in the RBs department, and a mediocre-to-bad draft in Matt's first 6 rounds. Unfortunately for Matt, going forward, his team will always be the underdog.
1. Tuna (A+)
