2017 FADUCO Draft Grades

Wow, I miss the draft due to jury duty and I read reports of total chaos. Normally, the FADUCO draft is a relatively smooth affair, but not this year. Ironically, the clusterfuck of a draft makes for easier writing material for my draft grading. So here it goes.

Kevin:   A+++

Why such a high score for Kevin?  Because by requesting and duping Hai into moving the draft date to a weekday night, this Machiavellian maneuver caused the following events to ensue:

1. After Hai moved the draft date, his other main league set the draft time, wait for it - 8PM Thursday August 31 as well. So he had to juggle 2 drafts in addition to managing the turmoil of the FADUCO draft. Hai also couldn't focus on his own picks.

2. Victor got stuck in deliberations on the last day of his jury duty and couldn't attend the draft. He had to give a cheat sheet to Donny to draft for him. Donny couldn't get the instructions to Hai in time, resulting in such choice auto-picks for Victor like Spencer Ware, Ted Ginn and Kenny Britt. Even worse, Donny forgot to pick Kareem Hunt over Marshawn Lynch, per Victor's specific instruction (more about this later)

3. Donny got distracted trying to do two picks back-to-back and keeping track of which pick belonged to whom. This made Donny switch to a default "Pick Redskins" strategy for himself, which is usually a pretty high-risk proposition.

4. Justin got thrown off by the date switch and thought the draft started at 8:30 PM. If the draft was originally done at Sunday 7 PM, he probably would have remembered the correct time.  Being late to the draft cost Justin some bad picks like using his high pick on Michael Thomas, selecting a Kicker in round 7 (also ending up with 2 kickers). Somewhat salvaged his team with Panthers picks in the later rounds, but the damage was done.

5. Matt was not at home on a weekday night, and thus had to use his phone to draft with disastrous results. OJ Howard in the 3rd round and a kicker in the 4th round come to mind. Plus, Hai had to manage the picks for Matt, cascading the effects of this.

6. PJ also had technical issues. It's possible that the website may have been able to resolve whatever issue was plaguing him by the end of the weekend. Like Donny, PJ seemed to have given up trying to track the draft and adopted a "Draft Dolphins" default strategy. Also a bad high-risk proposition.

So if you are counting, that's 6 teams who pretty much had their season ruined by a bad draft. How many teams don't make the playoffs? Six! Pure Genius by Kevin. And that's why he deserves an A+++. He's the Littlefinger of the FADUCO league. Chaos is a ladder.

(In real football-related matters, Kevin's first 4 picks were super-solid).

Tuna: A

Going with the Game of Thrones analogy, Tuna is like Cersei Lannister. He only had to stay at home sitting around to take advantage of his rivals' screw-ups.  He got the best available TE and had Kareem Hunt fall to his lap at the bottom of the first round. Getting Hunt despite Victor mocking him as the #2 pick for Hai, then Donny ignoring Hunt for both Victor and himself, is a no-brainer win. More wins came in the form of Darren McFadden and Paul Perkins in the later rounds. Also big Win for Tuna in round 3 (see below).

Vu: B

May have reached a bit with the #1 overall pick, but if Freeman goes down, Coleman will be a top 10 back. WRs are not high-upside but solid. Basically looks to be close to a .500 team so a B is deserving.

Byron: D

Maybe I should add Byron to the list of Kevin victims. According to the draft results, there were autodraft picks for Byron in the first two rounds. Then, the ultimate curious and newbie move of HANDCUFFING A QB with the third round pick!!!!!! OMG. That meant Tuna had his pick of QBs or whatever he wanted in that round. AAARRGHHH! Then some old foggies and 2 kickers in the later rounds. Ok, screw it, I'm chalking up the list of Kevin victims to SEVEN now, maybe Byron could have been coached up better by Donny in the few days before Sunday instead of Thursday.

DNP/INCOMPLETE GRADES - basically these teams will go as far as their keepers go:

Hai
PJ
Justin
Matt
Victor
Donny
