Week 5 Power Rankings

While the Florida crew hunker down for Hurricane Matthew, I hope they'll have electricity for this week's games. May the storm gods look favorably upon your roof. While you ride out Matthew, you can also view my other cruise photos here to remember what nice weather looks like.

After almost being done with the first trimester, it seems like the league is becoming like a banana republic divided into rich and poor, with a shallow middle class pool.  Due to the scheduling, we haven't seen the win-loss actually reflect a team's power ranking (looking at you PJ) but as bye weeks become a common occurrence, the deeper teams will look to pull ahead.

1. Justin - 3 out of 4 outings have been over 90 points. Panthers defense looks to be pretty bad against the pass - so expect a lot of shootouts. In bad weather news, Cam may not last the season with that offensive line. Storm cloud level: Category 2.

2. Donny - I successfully predicted last week that it was just a matter of time that Donny would break out and shatter the high score of the week. However, while he's still the favorite this week, his upside is limited because his ATL players face the strong Broncos D, who are also starting for Donny and it's unlikely both ATL and Denver will score high. Storm cloud level: Category 1

3. Tuna - Tuna is sort of underachieving with a 2-2 record. But he's had the hardest schedule in the league so far. Rest of the season, he will only have one game versus Donny, and none against Justin. I would consider Tuna the favorite for the rest of his schedule. OBJ is also due for a monster game. Storm cloud level: Mediterranean Sunny

4. Hai - Hai has either scored more than 90 points or close to the 70 point mark so far. Consistency is lacking, which is why I'm still placing him behind Tuna. This week, Hai has to start his rookie bench QB, who plays for a run-first team. And his RB is in the top 3 "1st round Busts" so far. But AJ Green is still a stud. Storm cloud level: Category 2

5. Kevin - Kevin has even been more consistently inconsistent than Hai. Odd weeks, he's good - Even weeks, he's weak. Since this is an odd week and he's facing Matt, I would say he should get to 3-2. Also, stacking Eagles vs. Detroit is a good move. On a side note, Carson Wentz is available for trading, Kevin, if you want to become Katy 2.0. Storm cloud level: Category 1

6. Victor - In case you haven't heard, Tom Brady is back. You probably suspect that he may be a bit motivated to take no prisoners. Victor's team has pretty good depth in all spots except TE. But lack of home run hitters (25+ points) has kept Victor's team in the solid middle class tier. Storm cloud level: Ray of Sunshine Tom Brady peeking through the Category 2 clouds.

7. PJ - This team has made history by being the worst-ranked undefeated team after 4 weeks. I'm pretty sure no team ever in the history of the league has scored the 2nd-worst weekly points by far and won TWICE. I was tempted to make a crazy bet that I'd beat PJ this week. But upon closer examination, his team is at full roster this week and enough strange things have happened that a 4 point CBS Sports spread is definitely not a sure thing for me. Storm cloud level: Category 3 but voodoo tricks may prevent a rain dump this week

8. Byron - Wow, competent waiver wire pickups  this week show a pulse. Or maybe word on the street is that Donny is secretly pulling the strings behind the scenes. Either way, this team is not a sure win and has possibly the strongest pair of starting RBs in the league. That counts for someting. Storm cloud level: Category 2

9. Matt - Asides from one outlier 125 points, Matt has been scoring like PJ and Vu. So I have to place him at #9 as penalty for losing to PJ and continuing PJ's lucky streak. At least Aaron Rodgers is back, though Matt's WRs are literally and figuratively hurting. Storm cloud level: Category 3

10. Vu - Well, being the lowest scoring team and losing to the last team with zero wins will place you at #10. Having to rely on Houston players facing the elite Minnesota defense is not a good thing either. I'm sensing Lily-levels of disengagement here. Storm Cloud Level: Category 4.
