At the midpoint of the season, it’s clear that the Caucasian
division is far superior to the Asian division. In inter-division matchups so
far, the Caucasians are 6-1 vs. the Asian side. Though Vu may win this week
after Emmanuel Sanders’ demolition of the Charger secondary, it still would result
in a 75% win percentage through week 8. This is noteworthy because after week
8, most if not all games each week shall be inter-division matchups. If the current
trend holds, we may be seeing for the first time ever a division champion with
a 7-7 or worse record.
I added up the breakdown records of each Asian team
versus Caucasian teams through week 7, and the results are quite ugly (or
pretty depending on your vantage point). Basically, it’s showing that Asians
overall have just over a 1 in 3 chance of beating a Caucasian team:
Donny: 16-19 versus
Caucasians (45.7%)
Victor: 14-21 (40%)
Tuna 12-23 (34.3%)
Hai 11-24
(31.4%)
Vu 7-28 (20.0%)
Total: 60-115(34.3%)
So, on to this week’s rankings.
1. Justin - Long live the new king! 5 in a row is
an impressive run. Well-balanced starting lineup. However his QBs can be
inconsistent, so while he has a good chance to reach the playoffs, he can be
upset.
2. Kevin – Lost in a shootout last week, with his #2 WR and TE on bye however. Kevin’s running back shallow depth is offset by being one of the few teams who could start 4 WRs if it was allowed.
3. PJ – Climbing the rankings as New England is now passing more and Randall Cobb is tracking as the 4th best scoring WR. His streaming of Defenses also has given good results for him.
4. Matt – It’s hardly surprising that Aaron Rodgers is delivering for Matt. But his 2nd-best player may be Andre Ellington, who’s averaged over 16 points in the past 3 weeks. And either Steve Smith or Dez Bryant have scored at least 14 points each week.
5. Lily – Yes, she’s lost 3 straight games but only fared poorly really in one of them. The schedule doesn’t get any easier with the top 2 Caucasian teams up next, but then it’s a much smoother ride in the last 5 weeks as she gets to face the 3 bottom scoring teams 4 times.
6. Donny – Since picking up Ronnie Hillman, Donnie’s fortunes have turned. Shady McCoy also is picking up steam and as long as Donny chooses the right QB, he may steal some victories away from the Caucasians.
7. Victor – If you look at Victor’s roster this week, it’s a horrendous amalgam of parts on paper. Only Russell Wilson is a top 5 player. Victor doesn’t even have a top 10 RB or WR. His TE is coming back from injury so he is iffy. What Victor does have is a 5-2 record and hope. His week 12 projected roster of a healthy Megatron, Josh Gordon, and TY Hilton may be enough to push him to the playoffs.
8. Vu – I am so glad that Peyton elected to showcase Emmanual Sanders this week instead of last week. Hard to imagine that Drew Brees hasn’t had a 20-point outing this season so far, that should change sooner than later. Vu’s running backs remain disappointing except for the occasional Eddy Lacy explosion.
9. Hai – The last time I trashed Hai badly in the rankings, he went on to beat me that week. But when you put up 38 points (32 in the old system), you can’t be ranked very high. Still, that 5-2 record means Hai still has legitimate playoff odds.
1 Tuna – Demonstrating how unfair the fantasy gods can be, Hai and Tuna share identical 23-40 breakdown records. They don’t quite share identical win-loss records. However, one reason why Tuna hasn’t won yet is that he’s the only Asian team to have faced 3 Caucasian teams so far. Thus, he only gets 3 more Caucasian teams while the others get 4 to 5. I don’t expect Tuna to be winless after week 11.
