Hope you DC owners can come to the FADUCO happy hour this
Sunday afternoon, from around 1230 to whenever. It’s at the Buffalo Wild Wings
in Gaithersburg, hope we get blessed with some quality games like we saw last
weekend. Also a chance to catch up with PJ, who Tuna, Hai, and I last saw about
7 years ago in Atlantic City. Also, always nice to meet up with Kevin, the ideal
good-guy owner of the league. Speaking of Kevin, he’s Number 1 in this week’s power
rankings.
1. Kevin – Two 100+ performances sandwiching a so-so
week 2, thanks to Andrew Luck. In years where Kevin got to the finals, he had a
QB capable of providing “home-run” outings. This year is like that. And to
think he drafted Luck AFTER QBs outside the Manning-Rodgers-Brees trinity such
as Stafford, Foles, Brady were selected.
2. Victor – The other deserving undefeated team, with a second comeback win in three weeks. Victor has had a non-QB go off for more than 20 points each week. Unlike in years past, Victor is actually in the top half of managerial efficiency so far. Not sure if that is sustainable given the questionable #2 RB and #2 WR roster, however. At least the Sankey pick in round 4 doesn’t look like a complete disaster now.
3. Donny – What’s a 1-2 team doing at the #3 spot? Well, I’m ranking partly based on team potential and the “who do I do not want to face this week” factor. Donny’s team is stacked in all but the RB slots. With such a wealth of weapons, Donny’s ability to make the right call on who to start has been abysmal (dead last in efficiency in the league). If Donny gets that efficiency to climb above 75, this is a loaded team.
4. Lily – The most consistent team in the league to date. 82-82-87 shows incredible quality. Mostly driven by Peyton Manning but also from the 2nd round pick of top RB Demarco Murray. This was AFTER Hai’s pickup of Giovanni Bernard and must be irritating him a little bit. Bad news for Lily is that it’s unlikely her team will go over 80 this week, with Peyton on bye and her backup Carson Palmer having injury issues.
5. Matt – Kind of fell flat on his face in an early battle to determine Caucasian supremacy with the loss to Kevin. Aaron Rodgers and Frank Gore have been duds in 2 of the 3 weeks so far. However, going by press and blog chatter, it looks like their coaching staffs are going to utilize them a lot more this week. Or Matt can also start Rivers against the worst pass defense in the league...
6. Hai – Yes, Hai is 3-0 and yet ranked only #6. This team has been very lucky with the matchups. Hai was either the low winner of the week or has faced the lowest scoring team of the week so far. Hai is the third-worst in breakdown, where his breakdown record indicates he should be 1-2 instead of 3-0. Also, his best player Bernard is on bye this week. I’m not going to be making any declarations like eating something bad if Hai beats me this week, but there will be a lot of swearing from me if his players have their outlier performance of the year this week.
7. Justin – If Jamaal Charles overcomes injury issues, Justin will be a tough opponent. Arian Foster is now back, and there is optimism from Victor Cruz. Justin also has a solid DST with the Bengals. The thing is with 2 mobile QBs in Kaepernick and Newton, there are going to be bad passing days and great fantasy days from either. Hence, being efficient at the QB spot will be tough each week.
8. PJ - Miami Dolphins have played pretty poorly since their week one win. In possibly unrelated news, PJ has played pretty poorly since week one. But PJ's problems aren't Dolphins-related except for that one week when Knowshown Moreno got injured. It's from QB/DST where Brady hasn't scored more than 10 points, and the 49ers Defense is not the same defense as past versions. Things don't look good for PJ facing a potentially loaded Donny this week.
9. Tuna - Well, this is what happens when you own Stafford. Some weeks, you get 20+ points, other weeks you get zero or less. Last year in the first round of the playoffs, Hai only needed something like 11 more points with only Stafford left to upset me. He got like seven. Also, finally, Tuna got rid of fantasy poison Kyle Rudolph and the underwhelming Chiefs defense. It seems like Tuna hasn't been on the ball this year so far with his transactions and thus paying the price with back-to-back sub-60 performances.
10. Vu - Lacy and Andre Johnson have been big disappointments. These are guys Vu counted on to deliver his "home run" hits in addition to Drew Brees and they've mostly struck out. The upside is very limited unless these 2 guys turn it around. At least his team isn't a roster disaster like we've seen in the past from Katy, Andrew, or Larry, so there's that consolation for him. Disclosure: I would have picked Lacy in the draft if Vu passed on him, so sometimes the draft is how lucky you are.
