Who is this year's Katy?

At the half-way mark, we shall investigate to see which team is getting more wins than it deserved. In other words, which has been the luckiest team in the league. We'll judge based on points scored (or rather, lack of points scored), win-loss record, scheduling luck, and opponents' managerial miscues or brain farts. We have 3 potential nominees for the 2011 Katy trophy:

1. Katy

Points scored: 8th in the league in points scored. 8 points

Win-Loss record: at 3-4, so doesn't have a winning record worthy of a Katy team. 4 points

Scheduling luck: 2 of her 3 wins were games that she scored lower than 65 points. Breakdown shows her 3-4 record is comparable to her 24-39 breakdown, so no bonus points there. 6 points

Opponent managing: Only 1 game where PJ should have started Plaxico over Sidney Rice and would have beaten her. Tuna had an inefficient game in a loss vs. Katy, but Kenny Britt got injured and replacing Chargers with Giants wouldn't have made a difference. 3 points.

Total Katy points: 21 points

2. Hai

Points scored: 7th in the league in points scored. 7 points

Win-Loss record: at 4-3, tied for division lead and has best 4-2 division record. 8 points

Scheduling luck: 2 of his 4 wins were games where Hai scored lower than 65 points. Breakdown shows his 4-3 record is not terribly far from his 31-32 breakdown, so no bonus points there. 6 points

Opponent managing: Won Week 1 game when Victor benched Ravens D. Won Week 4 vs Donny when Donny started Flacco instead of Cam Newton (!!!). 7 points.

Total Katy points: 28 points

2. Lily

Points scored: 9th in the league in points scored. 9 points

Win-Loss record: at 4-3, 1 game from division lead. 6 points

Scheduling luck: 2 of her 4 wins were games where Lily scored lower than 65 points. Another win was barely above at 66 points. Breakdown shows her 4-3 record is an outlier compared to 21-42 record, which represents a fair record closer to 2-5 instead. 2 bonus points. 8 points

Opponent managing: There were 2 games where her opponent could have managed better but the decisions were not that dumb. Hai could have started Bowe over AJ Green or Steve Smith, but the Chiefs' offense had been atrocious in the prior 2 games. PJ could have beaten Lily but that's hindsight talking since few would have started Ryan over Fitzpatrick and Sidney Rice over Mike Williams at the time. 4 points.

Total Katy points: 27 points

So there you have it. Hai is in the lead for this year's Katy prize. However, Lily just needs a few opponents to screw up and she'll be ahead for the prize. The namesake of the prize, Team Katy, still cannot be counted out. Stay tuned till the end of the season!
