So to try and make the rankings less vanilla, I'll try to be sugary sweet and try say nice things to everyone this week about one of their players.
1. PJ
Lots of good character guys on your team - Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, Hines Ward. I remember reading a Sports Illustrated story on Hines Ward when he was a rookie with the Steelers or something. It made me almost cry. I couldn't find the article, here's a more recent version of the story.
2. Tuna
Sole possession of the Asian division. Also, Tuna has the Vikings D, which has quite a few former Terps on their roster. Including Madieu Williams, who's profiled in today's Washington Post. I'm a bit less bitter about the Vikings D giving up the 4th quarter TD from Rogers to Jennings after reading that article.
3. Bill
On some weeks, Bill's roster is unstoppable, no choking here when Bill came back to score high score of the week. Speaking of no choking, Tony Gonzalez (a vegetarian) once stopped a man from choking on a piece of meat and saved his life by performing the Heimlich maneuver.
4. Kevin
Kevin's team strength are his running backs, but he also has some very talented receivers. And I mean talented in terms of entertainment value. If you've seen Hard Knocks, you probably agree that Chad Ochocinco has a bright future after football. Here are his greatest hits. And fake Andre Johnson was the Man in this skit (also guest-starring QB Matt Schaub).
5. Katy
McNabb has been inconsistent, but he's a fantasy force more often than not so far. Enough to warrant automatic-start status for now. Off the field, most people know him for his Campbell Soup commercials. However, he has been a long-time supporter for the American Diabetes Association and more remarkably, has been an active member of the Syracuse University Board of Trustees since 2002.
6. Victor
Despite a losing record, Victor is tied for fourth in points and is third in breakdown record. Peyton Manning serves as his scoring linchpin. He's also the linchpin of Madison Avenue, as you may have noticed over the years. These two MasterCard commercials always kill me.
7. Hai
Last year, Hai also was sporting a mediocre record at the mid-point of the season, then went on a hot run that culminated in his third FADUCO bowl. Will history repeat itself? For that to happen, he'll need Marion Barber to become as awesome as this fake Marion Barber.
8. Andrew
Andrew may have a pretty ugly record right now, but his players are some of the handsomest in the league. Exhibit A, Exhibit B, and Exhibit C. May or may not be safe for work. No homo.
9. Donny
Despite having the low score of the season, Donny's team can put up points at times. With a young roster, you just have consistency issues. But Donny should be inspired by the story of underdog Miles Austin. Undrafted out of college, Austin through hard work and a humble attitude is now an elite NFL WR. Somehow I don't picture Daniel Snyder drafting a player like Austin...
10. Lily
For the past two straight weeks, Lily has fielded a competitive team. Lily hopes to make it #3 and have a win this time. One of the few bright spots on Lily's roster has been ageless John Carney. I was really surprised to see that he first played in the NFL a year after I graduated from high school!
