I invited my sister Lily, brother-in-law John, Hai, and Yen to Easter dinner tonight. I went all out tonight and included wine and dessert this time. Most of the guests are not into lamb, so I made beef. With the exception of the beef dish and vinaigrette, everything was a first try for me.
Here was tonight's menu:
Red Burgundy Maurice Charleux Maranges 1er Cru Clos Roussots 2005
Proscuitto and Mozzarella balls with Spring Greens, Palm Hearts, and Balsamic Mustard Vinaigrette
Roast Round with Honey-Ginger Glazed Baby Vegetables
Roast Asparagus with Garlic and Herbs
Mixed Berry Tart with Mango-Berry Syrup
Click on the Tonight's Menu link above for photos of the dinner. Everyone liked the salad, and Lily was impressed by my vinaigrette. The beef was a bit too well done for most people, I shouldn't have kept it in the oven for an extra 5 minutes. Its marinade came out fine, however. Veggie side dishes were a big hit. The dessert, while not very photogenic, was the surprise of the night. I usually don't make dessert and this was my first serious attempt. Everyone was impressed that there was going to be dessert. John and Hai grabbed seconds, so it must have been pretty good. Overall, this was a night of upsets, as the dishes I feared I would fail were the most successful while the entree that I had the most experience in was relatively the least successful. Thanks to Lily for helping out a bit in the plating and in prepping the vegetables.
