Kevin's Victory Speech

Of Course there will be a Celebration Happy Hour. I was thinking sometime at the end of January. It will also probably be in Montgomery County since there is no smoking in the bars and wife and daughter will be invited as well.

Onto the Victory Speech, where I'll offer some thanks and a few observations on the season:

First Thanks:

I want to thank everyone for a great season and there are a few folks that I would like to specifically thank, starting with Vic.

Vic: Good job on the Blog this year. At first I was doubtful of the new look, but I think this year was the best yet. I liked the weekly power rankings and pop culture themes although I have to admit I didn't understand most of them and had to ask Kristy for help.

PJ: Thanks for trading me D. Anderson to me. Without a stud quarterback, I don't think I could have been successful in Faduco this year. Also another thanks to PJ for recommending B. Edwards prior to the draft.

Hai: Thanks and another good job this year as commissioner. I see you have learned from previous years and have stopped answering your phone prior to the games on Sunday. I know this because then I now get calls from PJ before the game asking about changing his line-up because something led to something and he can't get to a computer.

Andrew: Thanks for starting some of my former players against me in the Superbowl. I was glad to see that Willie Parker still had some allegiance to his old team.

Yen: Thanks for taking Hai off to far and away places. This is just he distraction we needed.

Tuna: Thanks for drafting Brady and Moss. Only with your bad luck would they have saved their poor performance for the playoffs. I think if they were on anyone else's team they would have secured a championship.

And a Few Observations:

1) Management Style: Being a hard ass as a coach doesn't motivate the team. We saw this in Donny's team. In one of his rants and fits he traded away many of his players. Scare tactics don't inspire motivation. Hopefully Donny will embrace his kinder, gentler side in 2008.

2) Trades and Drafting: Again after all the talk about draft day trades and positioning I don't think it made that big of a difference. I traded my draft position with Bill and ended up with Andre Johnson who was hurt most of the year. Again I think the middle draft picks make all the difference, thanks again to PJ on the B. Edwards recommendation.

3) The Rise of the Quarterback: I agree with Vic's earlier blog posting on fall of the running back in Faduco this year, but I think the importance of the running back has been replaced with the quarterback. I think this year more than the ones before showed that to be successful you need an elite quarterback. The problem is that quarterbacks are not predictable, just ask Bill with Drew Brees or Hai with Carson Palmer.

4) Prior to this season there was talk about realigning the divisions, since the Asians were so dominant. Hopefully the All Caucasian Superbowl has put this fear to bed and we can keep the divisions as they are for upcoming season.

5) Finally, Katy's team seems to ebb and flow like the Eagles. This season they followed the Eagles and missed the playoffs, so more than any other team I wish Katy success in 2008.

Once again thanks for a great year and thanks to Hai and Vic for administrating the league. I'll get more information out regarding the happy hour and I hope to see everyone there. (I'll also bring my roster if anyone is interested in trading for next year.)

Thank you for the props Kevin. As an aside, I had a light bulb tonight about turning this blog into something totally non-football in the off-season. It may be only relevant to "Metro" DC residents...

Oh, I found out today that Derek Anderson's High School sweetheart and now wife has a childhood best friend who grew up to be someone quite noteworthy. Google image "Sara Jean Underwood". NSFW! Repeat NSFW! But you'll thank me.
