Tuna vs. Andrew
Yes, Tuna this year is the overwhelming favorite to win it all. Given that the Patriots play the Jets and Dolphins during the FADUCO playoffs, it's unlikely Tuna will lose. Unless....the weather gods intervene. Andrew should start Storm instead of Darth Vader as his avatar. Andrew's team is the best equipped to match up against Tuna. Andrew shares the best breakdown record vs. Tuna, and he's the only one who has a winning record vs. Tuna this season, with the week 12 upset. Whoever wins, it will be their first time in the FADUCO finals. On to the matchups:
QB: Just like the most likely real-life Super Bowl scenario (guaranteed to be top 3 highest-rated super bowl if it occurs), it's the battle of the NFL dreamboats. Tom Brady needs 5 TDs to break the single season record. If weather conditions permit, he'll get it against the Jets. Everyone has read how badly Brady and Belichick want to stick it to the Jets and Mangini, but in their minds, B&B want to clinch home field just as badly. This week, all the FADUCO NFC East fans except for Tuna and Bill will be Cowboys fans. Tony Romo is capable of matching Brady with 5 TDs, but he faces a real defense in the Eagles. Romo does want to help TO get his TDs to rub it in the Eagles' faces. Andrew has relied on Romo to carry his team to the playoffs, this week won't be any different. However, Romo is not Andrew's most important player this week. More on that later.
Edge: Tuna (Strong)
Bonus battle: Possible Mrs. Tom Brady vs. Possible Mrs. Tony Romo (You Decide)
RB: With Tuna's formidable passing game, it's easy to overlook Tuna's running game. However, his running backs are relatively healthy, and unlike more than 50% of running backs picked in the first 2 rounds, his starters have not been busts this year. Depth matters less during the playoffs, so Tuna's shallow pool does not hurt him as much. As for Andrew, Willie Parker has been getting yards, but not TDs. Facing a pretty tough Jacksonville D, I don't expect that to change. Brandon Jacobs is back, but his main impact is having Tuna being forced to root against a Giant. On the matchup side, Tuna's RBs face very weak defenses, but Andrew's RBs are up against teams with a good defensive reputation.
Edge: Tuna (Medium)
WR: Best pick of the draft goes to Tuna in Round 4 - Randy Moss. But wait, there's more. Tuna in the past has had good success in picking up supposedly "over-the-hill" WRs. A few years ago, he got Mushin Muhammed. This year, it's Joey Galloway. On the surface, it looks like Tuna will have a strong edge. However, Andrew has Wes Welker - The Secret Weapon. Welker is Andrew's Most Important Player this week. If Brady throws those 5 TDs to Welker or randoms instead of to Moss because the Jets triple-cover Moss, Andrew would in effect take out both of Tuna's main weapons. That is why Andrew has a better chance of defeating Tuna compared to Kevin or Victor. Now on to the bad news: Andrew's #2 WR is pretty hurting. Marvin Harrison is not yet healthy, and Galloway has the edge over Engram. So to answer PJ's question, dropping Chad Johnson or TO would help Andrew the most. Of course, that would stir up a hornet's nest of protests and be revoked by the commish. So don't try that PJ.
Edge: Tuna (Slight)
TE: Antonio Gates of course is the best fantasy TE. Gates will also be feasting on Detroit linebackers this week. However, Chris Cooley could be a valuable safety outlet for Todd Collins in the face of the Giants' blitzes. Gates is almost assured of a touchdown, but the same cannot be said for Cooley.
Edge: Tuna (Strong)
K: Again, Andrew here is best equipped to match up with Tuna because Andrew has the Patriots' kicker. Hey, if the Pats score 10 TDs this week, at least Andrew will get 10 points from his kicker. Tuna's kicker plays for a disappointing Cinncy offense.
Edge: Andrew (Strong as can be for kickers, in other words, not so much)
DST: Defense had been a weak spot for Tuna in the first half of the season, but the Chargers have steadied up and they are now a viable defense play. However, you can't ask for a more favorable matchup with Andrew's team - his Ravens face the Dolphins. Though the Ravens gave up tons of points to the Colts last week, the letdown effects of choking vs. the Pats should have mostly faded by now. Ray-Ray does not want to be the first one to lose to the Dolphins in front of his hometown boys, expect the Ravens to be revitalized. Unless Kyle Boller starts the first 2 drives with quick INTs.
Edge: Andrew (Medium)
Even if Andrew negates Brady and Moss with his own Pats players, Tuna still has a solid set of RBs and Gates. Andrew relies too much on Tony Romo, and so too many things have to go right for Andrew to win. However, this is the most difficult matchup for Tuna, I am expecting a relatively tight battle to advance to the FADUCO finals.
