Draft Party on August 26?

Sorry for the tardiness, a few weeks ago I promised to let you know who my sleeper QB pick would be for 2007. Some of you already know who I chose, but for the rest of you, it’s Alex Smith of the 49ers. Here are some reasons he’s a good backup QB to pick up:

1. He has a stud running back so defenses can’t tee off the pass rush on him.

2. There is some offensive continuity. Though Norv Turner left to coach the Chargers, the 49ers are still using the same system implemented by Turner. Coming into his third year, Smith should be able to pick up more nuances of being a NFL QB.

3. He has home games during the last 3 weeks of FADUCO (1 regular and 2 playoffs).

4. The 49ers drafted smartly, getting a LT in the 2^nd round to protect Smith, many draft experts rated him highly.

5. Addition of Darrell Jackson and a full season of Vernon Davis will give Smith some good weapons.

6. 49ers have a relatively easy schedule.

The only reason why I’m making this public is that he has limited utility for me in FADUCO, as he shares the same bye week as Peyton Manning.

Now, on to more pressing news. PJ has requested that we have a draft party this year, specifically on Sunday, August 26. I’m more than willing to hold it at my place. The NFL season starts 1.5 weeks later, but we’d only miss out on the last week of preseason where teams play their scrubs for pretty much the whole game anyways. Why the specific date? Because that’s the same date as somebody’s wife’s baby shower and that person wishes to have an excuse to be outside his house during the shower. Also, it’s my birthday (no kidding) and I kind of owe you all a happy hour.
