FADUCO Draft grades

FADUCO DRAFT GRADES

Back by somewhat popular demand (Ok, it's just Kevin), here is my take on the draft:

Andrew

One-sentence rhyme: Missed first few rounds, later picks should have stayed in lost and found.

Best pick: Matt Hasselbeck in 2nd round, good recovery after 1st round target Brady was stolen by Tuna.

Worst pick: Vernon Davis in round 4. Gonzalez, McMichael, Watson, Crumpler, Witten still on the board. Davis may become an elite stud, but not this year.

Value pick: Chris Brown, round 5. Not really that high on value, but he's officially a starting RB.

Overall Grade: C-

Bill:

One-sentence rhyme: That's a horde of running backs on Bill's board.

Best pick: Getting both LT and Alexander's backups. Also props for believing in the Madden Curse.

Worst pick: Escaped getting Morency before Lundy. Also picked up Driver after saying he believed GB was going to suck big-time.

Value pick: Ben Watson at round 5, since NE will be without Branch possibly for a while.

Overall Grade: A-

Donny:

One-sentence rhyme: Got Reggie Bush, but other backs make his draft a push.

Best pick: Reggie, Reggie. Also got 2 solid #2 WRs in Jackson and Horn.

Worst pick: Tried to handcuff his starting RBs, but Duckett and Anderson are not the sure backups in their own teams.

Value pick: Heath Miller round 8.

Overall Grade: B

Hai:

One-sentence rhyme: Starters are so strong, investing in Green Bay is so wrong.

Best pick: Got his targeted bookend picks in Shockey and Williams to round out his solid keepers.

Worst pick: Ahman Green and Sam Gado. GB's offensive line has been universally derided. Plus Favre wants to go out slinging.

Value pick: Deion Branch in round 8.

Overall Grade: B+

Katy:

One-sentence rhyme: Shockingly picked Fins over Eagles, is there an evil Twin?

Best pick: Plaxico Burress, Eli is only going to get better.

Worst pick: On the surface, it looks like Drew Bledsoe was a great pick at round 4, but she missed out on getting Chris Brown to somewhat solidify her #2 RB situation. Travis Henry is only legit as a 2nd round pick if she also gets Brown.

Value pick: Ben Troupe in round 12.

Dishonorable mention: Vince Young in round 11, wasted pick since he's not ready to start this season, and probably is very draftable next season due to people being scared of the Mike Vick experience.

Overall Grade: D+

Kevin:

One-sentence rhyme: It's Michael Clayton, NOT Mark Clayton!

Best pick: Was able to invest fully in the Indy running game. The last time Indy drafted a RB in the first round, Kevin also drafted him and that season worked out pretty well for Kevin.

Worst pick: To borrow from the Princess Bride: “You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved with Ricky Williams, but only slightly less well-known is this: never start Kurt Warner when your RBs' health are on the line!”.

Value pick: Chris Simms in round 10. Jon Gruden is to QBs as Mike Shanahan is to RBs. Discuss.

Overall Grade: B+

Larry:

One-sentence rhyme: Built to start fast, but the good times may not last.

Best pick: Getting proven RBs in rounds 1, and 2.

Worst picks: Not getting handcuffs for his RBs. His RB roster looks pretty powerful for the first part of the season, whether they can stay healthy through the playoffs is another matter.

Value pick: Ernest Wilford in round 11. Has a chance to be the next Jimmy Smith, more polished than Matt Jones.

Overall Grade: A-

PJ:

One-sentence rhyme: George is very adorable, this roster is not so horrible.

Best pick: Thomas Jones in round 2. Without a pick in the first round, PJ got him a quality starting RB, Benson is looking to be a bust.

Worst pick: Redskins. Now Hai can call PJ a closet Redskin fan.

Value pick: Picked a lot of sleeper RBs who can shine if the starter gets injured: Marion Barber, Jerious Norwood, Chris Perry. However, may be playing run-and-shoot if they don't pan out.

Overall Grade: B

Tuna:

One-sentence rhyme: Can't really argue with his selections, this is a sound collection.

Best pick: Messed up Andrew's draft by picking Tom Brady in 1st. Messed up Victor by picking Tatum Bell in 2nd. Messed up Katy by picking Lendale White in 3rd. Tuna likes to prey on the weak. What a bully.

Worst pick: Only questionable pick was Barlow, but that was in the later rounds, so it's not really that bad a pick.

Value pick: Good defenses late with Bucs and Eagles.

Overall Grade: A

Victor

One-sentence rhyme: Got a Denver running back, but will he lead the Broncos' ground attack?

Best pick: Got two top-tier TEs in Cooley and Witten.

Worst pick: Though Victor's first 2 picks were #3 and #4 overall on his draft board, they are not handcuffed to anyone, very risky.

Value pick: Thanks to Kevin's inattention to first names, got Michael Clayton in round 11.

Overall Grade: B+

I think Hai has the strongest team. Getting Bulger in the 5th was a steal (a la Carson Palmer 2005). Shockey and Roy Williams were solid picks. Gado performed well in spurts last year even with the awful OL in GB. Well worth the risk considering the draft position.

Week 1 match of Hai vs Tuna will be a preview of the FADUCO Championship.

Thanks for the kudos Tuna. I think your squad is right up there with my team. I look forward to us dominating the other Asian weaklings this year.

many thanks to Bill for helping me out - likely to his own detriment.

I have to agree that my pick of Santonio Holmes with Clayton still on the board was terrible. Veron Davis - time will tell.

I like my team as much as any team I have had. I am feeling very good about this year. It will be my breakout year in Faduco, mark my words.

Thanks Vic for the draft analysis.

PJ you owe me $10.

I hope this Asian love-in is only a brief post draft thing. I don't think I can take it thoughout the season.

To give you a taste of it; "PJ and Bill I think your teams are wonderfull and your draft was ingenious." - give me a break -

What Asian Love-in? I gave 2 Caucasians A-, only 1 Asian got an A. Plus, you should know by now not to take Hai at his word in these sort of matters.

Great post Larry! I know you are trying to reverse-jinx yourself. Just remember Katy won in 2004 with a bunch of old guys.
