My Faduco computer rankings

I downloaded OpenOffice for my home PC, so far it looks to be pretty worth its cost compared to MS Office: $0 vs $400+. Plus, you get the bonus of not supporting evil Bill.

Speaking of Bill, I used the OpenOffice spreadsheet to generate my own "computer ranking" of the FADUCO league. Bill was #1 when I used both a dominant-momentum model and one equally weighted between total scoring performance and momentum. The spreadsheet model is probably not worth explaining, but I can email it to anyone who requests it. Basically, I grade a performance as "A", "B", "C", "D", or "F". Think of each team as a "class" with a class GPA.

Using the momentum-based model where it's 2 parts performance of last 5 weeks + 1 part total season performance, the results are pretty surprising:

1. Bill 3.40
2. Hai 3.19
3. Larry 2.84
4. Victor 2.72
5. PJ 2.68
6. Kevin 2.64
7. Tuna 2.60
8. Andrew 2.43
9. Katy 2.27
10. Donny 1.93

Using the model that is equally weighted bet. last 5 games and total season performance, results are more akin to conventional wisdom:

1. Bill 3.30
2. Hai 3.19
3. Larry 2.85
4. Tuna 2.70
5. Victor 2.67
6. Kevin 2.66
7. PJ 2.63
8. Andrew 2.35
9. Katy 2.20
10. Donny 1.99

The top 2 and bottom 2 don't change in either rankings. The grade distribution so far after week 11 actually reflects a college course pretty well:
29 A's, 36 B's, 21 C's, 21 D's, and 3 F's

I agree with your spreadsheet. I sure do like it when you pretend to be an engineer. Tuna what do your models say?

I may refine my models a bit next week to make the grade distribution more alike a normal curve. Right now, I'm too tough with the D's, I probably will change the cutoff score for a D.

I don't understand the calculations. I need to see the spreadsheet. Does this mean Bill is the new #1 in the power rankings?

Hai,

You don't understand because you are not an engineer. Tuna is going to be going over these calculations soon. I am still waiting for Vic to scan copies of his degree onto the blog, so if need be I can write a retraction and call my source out on this weeks 1st and 11.

I've used my Cray to predict the final standings. It models future potential not past earnings. Here are the results:

1. Hai - most complete starting lineup, weak bench.
2. Larry - Two man game in Bulger and Alexander.
3. Tuna - Deepest team but no upper echelon player w/o TO and McAllister.
4. Bill - Should rename to Team Tomlinson.
5. Kevin - Since Westbrook is really a WR, might break conventional wisdom by making playoff w/o a starting NFL RB.
6. Vic - My team made playoffs last year after starting 1-5, so Vic still has a chance.
7. PJ - Most dangerous team out there. Still has four solid RBs.
8. Andrew - Solid overall team, but tough matchup this week will knock him out.
9. Katy - McNabb out, Katy out.
10. Donny - As of 1500, does not have a QB on his team.
