A revolution in home broadband

My dad is planning to upgrade our internet connection, since Comcast sucks. Know this word: FiOS

Verizon is starting to roll out FiOS (Fiber Optic Service I think) in the Montgomery-Frederick County area. It's basically broadband on steroids for a very reasonable fee (15 mbps for download compared to cable's 3 mbps for $45 a month). Eventually, you can get InternetProtocolTV (imagine cable, but fully digital and faster). I'm not sure we can get it right now, but you may want to call Verizon to check.

Read this article about FiOS, and you can also do google searches. Note the middle paragraph about an example in the article:

And no, I wasn't paid to shill for Verizon.

Verizon is the evil empire and I wonder how they can afford to run fiber to your house for only $45 a month? 15 mbps is the equivalent of having 10 T-1 circuits to your house and if you've priced a T1 lately you'll know that they are a hell of a lot more than $45 a month much less 10 of them! They must have some kind of compression but that's still stuffing a LOT of data into a pipe.

I think it's because it's fiber-optic based instead of copper-wire based (like a T1). It's already available in parts of NOVA. Yes, they are evil, but I think Comcast is eviler.

I have had the FiOS product for 4 months or so and it has rocked, speed is awesome at 15mbps and it has never gone down. It also has the capacity of 100Mbps if you need a bigger pipe down the road. Id highly recommend it.
