My NFL head coaching rankings

Though it does not always correspond to fantasy-friendliness, here are my ratings for head coaches in the NFL. Looking at it, it seems there are more good coaches in the NFL than in past eras, such as the infamous Rich Kotite/Pete Carroll 90's. A lot of it has to do with hall-of-fame coaches who have unretired, thus making the pool deeper, the realization that college coaches usually don't make good NFL coaches, and the stability of NFL coaching compared to the NBA and MLB. Even Daniel Snyder has ended his revolving door.

Elite (surefire hall of fame, if not already)
New England
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Tennessee
Dallas

Untouchable (owner can't fire them for a poor season this year - even the Daniel)
Denver
Baltimore
Kansas City
Washington
Tampa Bay
Carolina

Solid (capable, proven winning records or best of the young turks)
Atlanta
Indianapolis
Cincinnati
Arizona
NY Jets
Jacksonville
Detroit
Houston

Slightly Overrated (probably have gotten more credit than they deserved)
Seattle
San Diego
Green Bay
NY Giants
St. Louis

Unproven (either rookies or 1-season coaches who can end up anywhere)
Miami
Buffalo
Cleveland
San Francisco

In Hot Seat (if poor season this year, they are most likely to be out of here)
New Orleans
Chicago
Minnesota
Oakland

RICKY SPEAKS

This week's Ricky Williams speechifying featured this comment on what he would consider satisfactory accomplishments this season:

''I'm not here to accomplish anything. That way I can look back, I can look at the process and see how much I had a chance to grow. Because no matter what you go through in life, whether you have success or not, you still are going to grow as a person. That's what is most important.

Asked what his ideal playing weight would be, Williams said:

''It's just a number. To have a number to say what I play at is kind of ridiculous.''
