12-team draft as guest manager

I was asked to draft for my brother-in-law's coworker. I was drafting against my brother-in-law and my sister amongst others. It was a 12-team league, with 1 pt for 10 yards and the QB TD's only 4 pts and -2 pts for INT's. Here is the team I got, in order of round. I was drafting 10 out of 12.

1. Deuce McCallister - 2 QBs went before me. Some idiot picked Manning with the #2 overall pick.

2. Julius Jones - was considering him as 1st round pick before McCallister fell to my lap

3. Tatum Bell - Told sister to draft him, she didn't listen, picking Marvin Harrison instead. The top 6 WRs were gone at this point.

4. Antonio Gates - Lots of QBs still available (see later) and only Gonzalez taken so far. Stud at his position.

5. Matt Hasselback - Yeah, I have a soft spot for him. Kerry Collins and Mike Vick already picked. Was debating between Matt and Plummer and Palmer. Didn't want to be fully in the Broncos bandwagon for an owner who is an Eagles fan.

6. Lavernues Coles - Well, with this drafting strategy, I was willing to accept poo-poo WRs. I think him, Deion Branch, and Drew Bennett were the only #1 WRs on respectable passing teams left on the board.

7. Steelers DST - League has similar to FADUCO scoring for defense, except more bonus points for yardage allowed. 4 other defenses already taken (Bills, Pats, Ravens, Eagles)

8. Isaac Bruce - Not very glamorous, but I'm willing to live with 950 yards / 6 tds from him.

9. TJ Duckett - Due to depth, didn't feel that picking Mike Anderson to back up Tatum Bell was necessary. Also, 2 of my 3 potential starting RBs had the same bye week, a mistake I tried to compensate with this pick.

10. Carson Palmer - Incredibly, still available. Got some comments about my bargain pick here.

11. Greg Lewis (WR-Phi) - My token Eagles pick. Lots of upside even if T.O. returns, since Pinkston is out. This was a supplemental pick, I originally picked Pollard to fulfill a 2-TE roster requirement but dropped him in the supplemental round after the draft.

12. Cowboys DST - Somewhat impulsive. But this pick forced a guy after me who wanted the Cowboys to pick someone else, which pissed off another guy who wanted that first guy's pick. So I did damage to two other people, which is always good in a draft.

13. Jeff Reed K - well, gotta pick a kicker

14. TJ Houshmanwhatever WR - yeah, my WRs suck, but at least the owner can exploit Palmer to Houshmanwhatever if Cincinnati plays sucky defenses.

Everyone loves their teams right after drafts. Still, with the exception of the WRs, this is a team that would be very competitive even in a 10-person league. The league also had a nice rule that prevented RB hoarding, since you could only pick at most 4 RBs, hence me not picking up Mike Anderson in the late rounds.

Coles was a quaity pic in the 6th round. You were playing against fools. McAlister and Jones, how do u pull that off? 12 people? Peyton a strech, but not bad with 2nd pick ease off. Palmer looked poor last night. Did you see Harrington? 9-9 but 3 horrible sacks after Kevin Jones BULLED over the Def.

Quick note: anyone wanting to move up offer me a trade.

Drew B is going to have an off year and coles is back with his boy Pennington. Smart move IMO.

I was the one that urged his sister to pick Harrison instead of Bell. Top 4 WR instead of an RB that you wouldn't be able to start seemed smart to me. Plenty of depth at RB this year especially when talking about an RB that will have to compete for starting duties. The Denver backfield is always the most inscrutable. If you get lucky and end up with the starter, good for you, but I don't think ganbling for it in the htird round is a great idea especially if you already have Holmes and Maritn locked up.

Yeah, I may have been a bit harsh on my sister, given her draft position. For me, however, as the top 6 WRs were already drafted, Bell had more value given the small spread between the remaining WRs. Of course, the point is moot given what has happened since.
