2012 FADUCO Draft Grades Part I

Congratulations to everyone for a quick and problem-free draft this year. Maybe holding it on weekend nights makes everyone more alert instead of being tired from a long day at the office. Also, at least CBS Sports didn’t change the format of the draft room, unlike the main fantasy website. That could have led to mass confusion and riots.

Let’s try to add some quantitative metrics to the draft grading this year. I’ll judge a pick into 3 categories: GG, Meh, and WTF. If you’re an internet dork like me, you know these stands for good game, whatever, and what the f***.  These picks are based on the round the pick was made and whether team needs were addressed.

Most draft picks are implicitly either drafting for floor (limited downside) or ceiling (high upside).  In other words, you’re either expecting an improvement from historical performance or you think the draft pick will perform to historical standards. I’ll try to measure a draft aggressiveness scale (ie. # of ceiling picks per round).

For those of you who are really curious, I can send you my spreadsheet that tracked all these metrics. In alphabetical order:

Andrew
GG:  5
Meh:  5
WTF:      2
Aggressiveness Factor:   42.  Autodraft made some conservative picks.

Bill
GG:  6
Meh:  5
WTF:      1
Aggressiveness Factor:   50.  Upside picks evenly distributed through draft.

Donny
GG:  9
Meh:  3
WTF:      0
Aggressiveness Factor:   50.   Went mostly safe in first half, then drafted for upside in second.

Hai
GG:  7
Meh:  5
WTF:      0
Aggressiveness Factor:   58.  More aggressive in middle part of the draft.

Katy
GG:  7
Meh:  2
WTF:      3
Aggressiveness Factor:   58.   Aggressive during start and end.

Kevin
GG:  6
Meh:  5
WTF:      1
Aggressiveness Factor:   83.   Possibly was in Vegas during the draft.

Lily
GG:  6
Meh:  4
WTF:      2
Aggressiveness Factor:   42.   Appears to have relied on safe and stale cheat sheets.

PJ
GG:  7
Meh:  2
WTF:      3
Aggressiveness Factor:   67.  Very optimistic outlook since Alabama was crushing Michigan at the time.

Tuna
GG:  10
Meh:  2
WTF:      0
Aggressiveness Factor:   58.   Safe early on, then started to look for upside in last half.

Victor
GG:  9
Meh:  3
WTF:      0
Aggressiveness Factor:   58.   Last half was almost all upside picks.

For the next part, I’ll comment on a more qualitative basis each owner’s draft.

Vic,
Looked at the spreadsheet, i think you were a little generous grading a few of your picks. Peyton in round 1 got a GG, wilson in round 4 got a GG as well. I think Peyton would have been there at least in round two for you. Also I think there is a lot of risk with that pick. And Wilson in round 4, I think that was a bit of a stretch and is more of a WTF in round 4 than a GG. kevin
