Week 8 Power Rankings

We have passed the halfway mark of the regular season, and it has been a very competitive league so far. All but one team are very much alive for a playoff spot. Not much has changed since my assessment from last week. My grades will be a bit generous to reflect this competitive environment.

1. Tuna A-
Biggest Win: Week 2 vs Donny (85-76). If Tuna lost, he would have been 0-3 and panic trades could have ensued
Worst Loss: Week 7 vs Victor (88-91). Always painful to lose when you score the 2nd most points of the week
Team MVP: Aaron RoDgers. Consensus NFL and Fantasy MVP.
Hidden Gem: John Kasay. Most productive kicker so far.
Bust: DeAngelo Williams. He's the worst 1st round pick this year so far.

2. Donny A-
Biggest Win: Week 1 vs Katy (94-74). Donny is unique with his win-lose-win-lose pattern. So winning the first game mattered.
Worst Loss: Week 4 vs Hai (77-84). I don't know why Donny started Flacco@Jets over Cam Newton, Newton had already shown he was a stud QB by then. Plus, Revis Island!
Team MVP: Calvin Johnson. The guy is a BEAST! He has the makings of Randy Moss circa 2007.
Hidden Gem: Bears DST - has given Donny as many points as Ravens have given Victor
Bust: LeGarrette Blount. Donny is still struggling at RB because of Blount's ineffectiveness.

3. Bill B+
Biggest Win: Week 6 vs Lily (63-41). Stopped Lily's 3-game winning streak and gave some firm ground to Bill's playoff contention
Worst Loss: Week 5 vs Donny (59-62). Heartbreaker, but no real managing errors.
Team MVP: Drew Brees. Bill hasn't scored lower than 59 points, largely due to Brees.
Hidden Gem: Rob Gronkowski has given Bill more points than his WRs
Bust: Eagles DST have underachieved until Redskins game

4. Andrew B+
Biggest Win: Week 4 vs Bill (72-64). Held off a challenge by Bill for Caucasian supremacy at that point.
Worst Loss: Week 6 vs Kevin (73-83). First loss of the season when Kevin came back due to Miami's ineptness on Monday night.
Team MVP: Wes Welker. We knew Brady was going to be good, but Welker as a top 3 WR?
Hidden Gem: Marques Colston. He's been performing like a #1 WR since he came back from injury.
Bust: Peyton Hillis. Sigh. When will people start believing in the Madden Curse?

5. Victor B
Biggest Win: Week 7 vs Tuna (91-88). Some would say Tim Tebow wasn't responsible, that Big Ben would have given Victor more points. But that's not the whole picture. Tebow gave Victor the faith to start his other players instead of over-analyzing. Intangible and priceless!
Worst Loss: Week 1 vs Hai (41-55). The right hedging situation would have been to start Ravens, thus setting a higher floor on scoring instead of relying on Norv and his defense.
Team MVP: Mike Wallace. Thank you Kevin for dropping him instead of Hakeem Nicks
Hidden Gem: Jason Witten. Victor hasn't had to play TE roulette unlike the past 5+ years
Bust: Jamaal Charles (injury category). Reggie Wayne (non-injury category). Traded SF def and Alex Smith for 2 fantasy points contribution so far.

6. Lily B
Biggest Win: Week 7 vs Andrew (64-53). Even though Andrew did not have his Patriots, this was a must-win game for Lily in order to stay relevant in the Caucasian division race.
Worst Loss: Week 2 vs Andrew (71-96). Hasn't had any heartbreaking losses, they've all been decisive.
Team MVP: Fred Jackson. Arguably the best pick in the first 3 rounds of this year's draft.
Hidden Gem: Pierre Garcon. He's now the #1 Colts WR, great handcuff to Wayne.
Bust:Her defenses that she drafted or picked up. 49er defense was from a trade, so they don't count.

7. Hai B
Biggest Win: Week 2 vs Katy (96-71). The most "pure" win by Hai, ie., no luck involved.
Worst Loss: Week 3 vs Lily (44-48). Just one ugly game, almost akin to a Seattle-Cleveland matchup.
Team MVP: Lions Defense. The one constant in his ever-shuffling lineups.
Hidden Gem: DeMarco Murray. Well, not really hidden, but I hope Hai didn't drop Murray in his other league. I drafted for him and that was the one pick that I nailed among mucho busts, and you get to keep him for a Round 13 pick!
Bust: Steven Jackson. One of his 4.7 RBs that has failed to produce.

8. Katy C+
Biggest Win: Week 3 vs Tuna (62-51). The closest thing to a signature Katy win this season, catching a powerful opponent on a bad week.
Worst Loss: Week 6 vs Hai (62-45). This loss is more reflective of her team's underwhelming potential.
Team MVP: Mike Vick. Team Katy sinks or swims with Vick.
Hidden Gem: Beanie Wells. Until his injury in week 7, was producing at a top 5 RB level.
Bust: DeSean Jackson. Hasn't been as explosive this year.

9. Kevin C+
Biggest Win: Week 6 vs Andrew (83-73). Just when we were ready to write off Kevin, he pulls some trades and delivers the upset of the week.
Worst Loss: Week 7 vs Bill (46-70). Aaaand we're ready to write off Kevin again after this poo-poo showing.
Team MVP: Jimmy Graham. Best fantasy TE right now.
Hidden Gem: Jets DST. Well, it's hard to find sleepers amongst his roster.
Bust: Chris Johnson. The worst non-injury bust amongst consensus top 10 draft picks so far.

10. PJ C-
Biggest Win: Week 2 vs Victor (99-55). Well, that was an easy one to choose.
Worst Loss: Week 5 vs Andrew (54-64). The wheels started to fall off the bus that week, or maybe one week earlier vs Lily.
Team MVP: Adrian Peterson. I'm not sure how many 1-6 teams are out there with Peterson on their rosters, but it must be in the 1-5% range.
Hidden Gem: Andre Johnson. He might return this week and maybe bring PJ back to relevancy.
Bust: Too many to count. Matt Ryan, Mike Williams, Sidney Rice, PJ's Redskins, to name a few.
