Mock draft beta 0.1

Welcome to the new economy where there is no such thing as a risk-free asset. Much like your typical FADUCO draft, where no sure thing exists in the realm of fantasy football. This is my initial attempt to predict picks for the first 2 rounds based on team needs and rankings. I haven't done deep research yet, so please take these predictions as you would with the opinions of a ratings agency analyst.

Round 1

1. Victor - WR Mike Wallace - Top 10 WR in most current rankings. RBs not an urgent area of need and no compelling "must-haves" RBs in the draft.

2. Andrew - WR Jeremy Maclin - Dez Bryant and Dwayne Bowe also in play, I don't see Andrew picking a RB based on past draft history.

3. Donny - QB Matt Ryan - Area of need, even if the rest of free agent QBs are pretty indistinguishable. Ryan does have two things going for him: Roddy White won't be double-covered and Michael Turner won't be carrying the rock as much as in the last two years.

4. Bill - WR Dez Bryant - Will pick Eagle WR Maclin if Andrew passes on him.

5. PJ - RB Daniel Thomas - PJ and Dolphins both need a RB to replace their lost ones. Thomas has the best chance to get carries of all the rookie RBs.

6. Tuna - RB Felix Jones - Tuna wants a running back who's not sharing carries for depth and trade bait (especially to entice Hai who's next in the draft order).

7. Hai - TE Vernon Davis - All the flashy Dallas players have been picked, so Hai will indulge in his Maryland Terps.

8. Lily - RB BJGE - Needs a running back to partner with Arian Foster. Also, he sounds like a law firm and Lily has a thing for lawyers.

9. Kevin - TE Dallas Clark - Though Kevin needs a RB as well, the choice between selecting a first tier player catching Peyton's passes and a second or third-tier RB with all kinds of risks means Kevin will choose the more conservative choice.

10. Katy - RB DeAngelo Williams. Could also be another often-overlooked or old RB that Team Katy has been known to pick up in the past, such as Cedric Benson, Marshawn Lynch or Joseph Addai.

Round 2

11. Katy - WR Dwayne Bowe. Or some other WR. I've given up trying to guess what Team Katy will do. Their picks have been so random in the past and will inevitably give Katy an outlier 30-point outburst the week I'm playing her.

12. Kevin - RB Mark Ingram - Will Kevin's track record in plucking rookie RBs to stardom continue?

13. Lily - TE Antonio Gates - Rivers to Gates combo.

14. Hai - WR Santonio Holmes - Fulfills a need at WR, highest wideout remaining on the board.

15. Tuna - TE Jason Witten - Tuna acquiring all the pieces for his planned blockbuster trade with Hai.

16. PJ - WR Vincent Jackson - Value according to paper, but previous owners Bill and Victor have been burned by the enigmatic WR. However, PJ is probably so occupied by the new wifie this year and thus will only go according to the paper cheat sheets.

17. Bill - RB Jahvid Best - Bill likes to pick up young RBs, opposite of Katy. Best now may get goal-line carries since Lesoure is out. However, at this point they all come with questions. For Best, it's injury risk.

18. Donny - WR Steve Johnson - Will pair up with the more highly regarded Calvin Johnson. Did you know that Johnson and Johnson now has a higher credit rating than the US government? Apparently, band-aids and tylenol are safer investments than US bonds. Then again, some think the US economy is worse than a band-aid situation at this point.

19. Andrew - RB Ryan Torain - Or whoever is getting the most carries at Redskins camp by draft time. Hightower or Helu could also be chosen here.

20. Victor - RB Ladanlian Tomlinson - A reach but a necessary handcuff for Shonne Greene.

I am swearing off picking homers this year.

Vic, 4 TEs in the first two rounds. Why the run on TEs so early? Do you see the position being more prominant than in years past, or not enough quality at the other positions? Kevin

I agree. No value in picking 4 TEs in first two rounds and only 1 QB.
